ABOUT THE FRENCH LANGUAGE

French is one of the languages that are derived from Latin. These languages are collectively referred to as the Romance languages. French also became an important language in Africa as a result of the colonisation of large parts of Africa by France, particularly in the nineteenth century. French has been the language of the European elite for a long time. During this time, many French words have also been taken up by the English language. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and one of the 21 official European Union languages.
